Snow Leopard and Camtasia Mac Crashosis

Installed the Snow Leopard upgrade last night and this morning I discovered Camtasia Mac had  developed a bad case of “Crashosis”. Every time I clicked the Record button, I would get the countdown and the app would crash when the countdown finished.

This necessitated a quick scan of Tech Smith’s docs looking for any “issues” between the app and Snow Leopard and this one wasn’t addressed. I got hold of Techsmith’s Support Crew and my “crasshohsis” was cured with a couple of mouse clicks. Here’s the deal:

I just adore the fact I can record the System sound while I do my narrations. Thus I always leave the “Record System Sound” button selected in the Recorder. How do I know it is selected? The button is green.

There is a small app named Soundflower that is installed along with Camtasia Mac. This app is what does the recording of the System Sound. Unfortunately, when you upgrade to Snow Leopard, the third party bits and pieces, including Soundflower, aren’t updated.

If your  Record System Sound button is selected by default and you have just installed Snow Leopard you ,too, may develop a serious case of Snow Leopard Crashosis. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Deselect the Record System Audio button and then reselect it.

  2. You will now get a Dialog Box telling you Soundflower needs to be updated.

  3. Do the update and start a new recording

That’s it. That’s all you need to do. A couple of clicks.  Crashosis cured.
